Alcoholism and A Course in Miracles

I have been studying the ACIM for 10+ years, and as of late something has popped out at me, I have had a "Moment of Clarity", on page 158 of the Course, actually page 158.5 it states -

"All forms of sickness, even unto death, are physical expressions  of the fear of awakening. They are attempts to reinforce sleeping out of fear of waking."

This is a pathetic way  of trying  not to see (avoiding the union of a split mind) by rendering the faculties for awakening/seeing ineffectual. In my words being to drunk or high on whatever to care or want to transform oneself to the level of higher being.

I feel its safe to speculate that alcoholism would be at play here in this regard, is it not too an escape from what would be best and responsible to our spiritual benefit, and not only that, but the EGO would in it's cleverness detect when an individual would be susceptible to alcoholism and that the EGO would take advantage of this situation, an interesting passage from the Course is this -

"The EGO uses the body to conspire against your mind, and because the EGO realizes that's it's 'Enemy' can end them both (your true spiritual mind)merely by recognizing they are not part of you, they join in the attack together"

The first quote might be an argument against the disease theory, the second quote would be against the theory that the body is allergic to alcohol in an alcoholic, remember the Course repeated;y states that the body is naturally neutral, has no mind of its own and at best is a communication device. To quote the Course again - "Sleep(unconscious/passed out) is withdrawing; waking is joining."

All being said this has the opportunity for a new approach to the challenge of abusive drinking and drugging. The Course is very close to the AA philosophy, especially in regards to the steps, but the concepts and suggestions in regards to the EGO, and how this might be applied to the already successful steps and other devices used to help the the alcoholic could be revolutionary.
